Bluestone Questions Answered
Whats the difference between bluestone tiles and bluestone pavers?
Bluestone tiles and bluestone pavers are both terms that are used interchangeably. Blue stone tiles are usually bluestone cut to size tiles that have a thickness of 10 mm or 20 mm. When we refer to blue stone pavers, we are usually referring to pavers that have a thickness of 20 mm, 30 mm or 40 mm.
What surface finishes are available for bluestone tiles?
The most common bluestone surface finishes are sawn, semi-honed, honed and sandblasted. Other surface finishes such as bush hammered, chiseled, tumbled, polished and flamed are also possible.
What surface finish should I choose for my blue stone pavers?
It really depends on the area of application and if it will be used indoors or outdoors. Honed bluestone is recommended only for indoor use. Sawn and semi-honed blue stone has a better slip rating than honed bluestone and is usually the bluestone of choice for outdoor applications. Sandblasted bluestone pavers have a coarse surface texture with excellent surface grip. Sandblasting bluestone gives the pavers an attractive rustic feel and is suitable for outdoor use.
What are blue stone cat paws?
The unique feature found on basalt tiles, which differentiates and elevates Stone Central's pavers above your ordinary concrete pavers. Cat paws are completely random and vary in size, position and intensity on each paver. That's what makes bluestone an exclusive choice for paving.
Are blue stone cat paws found on all pavers?
No. Taking in to account that bluestone is a natural stone, cat paws is found randomly on pavers. Stone Central's basalt is a selection of bluestone blocks with the perfect amount of cat paws.
Do I need to seal my bluestone tiles?
Sealing bluestone is recommend to provide your pavers with maximum protection. Selecting a good quality sealer is crucial as good quality sealers will provide you with a longer lasting optimum protection. The last thing you want to do is use a cheap sealer which requires re-sealing every 6 months. Removing stains from natural stone sometimes can be quite a challenge, so it is imperative to seal your natural stone with a quality sealer. Sealing will also help you clean your bluestone pavers with greater ease.
Can I use normal cut to size bluestone tiles as pool coping?
You can use normal blue stone pavers for your pool coping needs but Stone Central does not recommended it. Normal blue stone pavers have machine cut sides, which practically means that the paver side facing inside the pool will have a rough surface finish. Secondly, the edges of the blue stone tiles will have a square finish and not a neat bevel finish.
Bullnose or Dropface pool coping?
Both are equally suitable to be used as bluestone pool coping tiles. Dropface or L-shape blue stone tiles provide a modern finish to your pool. Bullnose pavers have a smooth rounded finish that suit a wide range of pool projects such as contemporary or jelly bean shaped pools.
Will sealing bluestone change its colour?
There are 2 types of sealers. Transparent and enhancing sealers. Transparent sealers retain the natural surface colour. Enhancing sealers on the other hand provide deep colour enhancement.
How much does it cost to install and lay bluestone tiles?
